Agnes Inglis MacDonald, Johnstown, PA
Agnes INGLIS was born on 03 January 1856 at Salenside in the Ashkirk Parish of Roxburghshire.
She was a daughter of William INGLIS and Elizabeth MURRAY.
In 1857, Agnes emigrated to the United States with her mother and father and they settled just south of
Brandon in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin.
On 03 January 1888, Agnes INGLIS married James ALEXANDER MACDONALD in Fond du Lac County.
Alexander, as he was always known, was born on 12 April 1858 at Bonawe in the Ardchattan Parish of Argyllshire, Scotland.
Alexander was a son of Alexander MACDONALD and Isabella ROGERS and an older brother of
Allan MACDONALD. Young Alexander emigrated to North America with his
family in about 1882. Alexander MACDONALD and his wife Agnes INGLIS are shown in the photo above right. (Click on photo for larger image.) The photograph was
taken in the late 1880's, most likely around the time of their 1888 marriage. This photograph was kindly loaned by members of the MACDONALD family.
Alexander and Agnes Inglis MACDONALD moved to McCance, Westmoreland County,
Pennsylvania in 1892 and then to Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania in 1893. Alexander
worked as a Supply Clerk in a Steel Mill in Johnstown. He also worked as a mail carrier and
was a lay-minister.
Alexander MACDONALD died on 24 May 1924 in Johnstown and Agnes Inglis
MACDONALD died on 19 July 1933 in Johnstown.
Children of Alexander MACDONALD and Agnes INGLIS:
a. Grace MACDONALD, who was born on 13 October 1888 in Utley, Green Lakes
County, Wisconsin. Grace was a Stenographer and/or Bookkeeper for various Johnstown area business.
Grace married Jesse MILLER in Johnstown on 12 June 1952. Jesse was born on 08 August 1886 in
Pennsylvania and was a son of Albert MILLER and Mary FLEEGLE. Jesse was also a Bookkeeper he and died on
19 March 1964 in Johnstown. Grace died there on 20 September 1964.
b. Elizabeth MACDONALD, who was born on 05 March 1890 in Utley, Wisconsin.
Known as Bessie, she worked as a School Teacher in the Johnstown Public School system. Bessie
MACDONALD died on 17 March 1929 in Johnstown.
c. William MACDONALD, who was born 19 March 1895 in Johnstown.
William died in Johnstown on 19 February 1896.
d. Alexander MACDONALD, who was born 08 November 1897 in Johnstown.
Alexander died in Johnstown on 19 March 1898.
e. Wesley Allan MACDONALD, who was born 30 May 1900 in Johnstown.
Wesley made rails for railroad tracks at Bethlehem Steel Corporation in Johnstown. Wesley married
Margaret FOX on 22 October 1941 in Johnstown. Margaret was born on 19 August 1902 in Johnstown
and was a daughter of Henry FOX and Annie KEIPER. Wesley Allan MACDONALD died on 23 August
1981 in Johnstown.
