Alexander CRANSTON

Alexander CRANSTON and Martha McQUEEN

Alexander CRANSTONE was born about 10 October 1802 and was a son of George CRANSTON and Margaret MURRAY.  In about 1834, Alexander married Martha McQUEEN. Alexander and Martha raised a very large family before Alexander died on 31 May 1861 at Stonneyburn and Martha died on 03 September 1862.

Children of Alexander CRANSTON and Martha McQUEEN are:

i.  Margaret CRANSTON, who was born about 1834 and died 26 December 1851.

ii.  Agnes CRANSTON, who was born about 1835 and died 06 November 1893 at Burrance Hill in the Kirkmichael Parish of Dumfriesshire.

iii.  William CRANSTON, who was born about 1837 in Crawford.

iv. John Pollock CRANSTON, who was born about 1 December 1839 in Crawford.

v. Martha CRANSTON, who was born about 16 December 1841 in Crawford.

vi. Mary CRANSTON, who was born about 27 April 1844 in Crawford. She died 7 July 1870 at Birkbush.

vii. George CRANSTON, who was born about 4 October 1846 in Crawford.

viii. Janet CRANSTON, who was born about 27 April 1849 in Crawford.

ix. Robert McQueen CRANSTOUN, was born about 28 October 1851 in Crawford.  He was a shepherd and about 1881 was living at the CRANSTOUN inset (click for larger image) Damhead Farm House in Lasswade, Midlothian. Robert, (or someone in his family) strongly preferred the spelling CRANSTOUN and went so far as having the name changed on the family headstone in the cemetery at Kirkton farm near Crawford (shown at right).  Robert died 05 October 1929 at Stonneyburn.

x. Alexander CRANSTON, who was born about 26 October 1854 in Crawford.

xi. Humphrey CRANSTON was born about June of 1857 and died 8 February 1858.
