Lawrence TAIT was born about 01 July 1801 at Whiteside in the Newlands Parish of Peeblesshire.
He was the son of John TAIT and Margaret MURRAY.
Lawrence was married to Agnes Todd. Agnes was born about 26 October 1802 in Kelso, Roxburghshire
and was the daughter of James TODD and Janet Paterson.
Lawrence earned his living as a shepherd and practiced that trade at many farms
in the Peeblesshire area. In the early 1830's he moved to Auchinoon in the Parish of Kirknewton
in the East Calder area of Midlothian. Auchinoon (see photo at right,
click for larger image) is a very wild, and barren land where sheep are still
tended today.
Lawrence TAIT died on 1 June 1877 at Auchinoon. His wife Agnes Todd TAIT died
at Auchinoon on 22 January 1881. Lawrence and Agnes TAIT are buried in the Kirknewton Cemetery
(shown in photo at left, click for larger image). Photographs on this page appear here due to the kind and
dedicated effort of Ian and Irene THOROGOOD.
